Our pet puppies were spayed/neutered
BEFORE leaving us!

HeartDreams Puppy Breeding and Raising

We strived to make sure our puppies are the absolute best quality possible.  We ensured this by doing the following:

bullet

We started by purchasing the best possible dogs we could from trusted, long-established lines that have the type of Papillon we like and by breeders of good integrity.  (Wise, Lorac, ElMac, Anchor and Pixiedust -- the first 4 lines have previously been crossed successfully by the breeders themselves, and we chose Pixiedust as a wonderful line to outcross to)

bullet

We did genetic disease testing and certifying to make SURE the dogs are free from genetic diseases and problems that could be carried on to any puppies.  We breed ONLY dogs that have CLEARED all of these tests (see below for the specific test information).

bullet

Good temperament is an absolute MUST before a dog was ever considered to be part of our breeding program, or even our home.  Papillons are supposed to be sweet, gentle and loving dogs.  We do NOT tolerate Papillons that are dog or people aggressive in any way!  We also stay away from too shy or too "busy".

bullet

We show our dogs to compete with the best and make sure ours meet not only our high standards, but the judges as well!

bullet

We continue to study and learn by attending seminars, reading books and articles, initiating discussions with long-time breeders, etc. to grow as breeders and owners.

bullet

We raised our puppies with current information on nutrition and early socialization techniques for happy, well-adjusted dogs.

bullet

We spared no expense on our dogs :-).  We worked very hard to have and breed outstanding animals.

Health (Genetic Disease) Testing and Certification

The health problems most common in Papillons are the eye disease "Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA)" and patella luxation (bad knees).  Our national breed club also has recommended that hearts be screened to make sure no hereditary defects are found.

We are ADAMANT that breeders need to do these health screenings and make the information public (good or bad).  We also feel strongly that breeders need to be honest with each other and with puppy buyers about the different faults (no dog is perfect!) and attributes of our dogs.  This will help keep the Papillons as wonderful as they are!

We have tested and sent the results of these tests into the new Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) database that is sponsored by OFA and AKC.  This requires each Papillon be tested and cleared for eye diseases, patella problems and heart problems.  We have authorized CHIC to make the data available to others whether the results of our tests are good or bad.  We challenge all other breeders to test and certify all of your breeding dogs too!

HeartDreams puppies now come from parents who are:

bullet

Clear of PRA or any other eye defects, certified by the Canine Eye Registry Foundation (CERF) yearly.

bullet

Examined by veterinarians and certified by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals to have good to excellent patellas.

bullet

Cleared of congenital or hereditary heart defects by canine cardiology doctors and certified by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals.

All of our breeding dogs now have CHIC numbers and anyone with Internet access can go right to the CHIC website, look up Papillons, and look up our dogs to see their CLEARED test statuses!!

Other Puppy Information

Our Puppies:

bullet

that are sold as pets are SPAYED or NEUTERED before they leave me!!  This means that they do not get to go to their new homes until they are between 4 to 6 months old (varies with each puppy), but they do get to live longer, healthier and safer lives.

bullet

are raised in the house with love and dedication to not only their physical needs, but to the development of sound, healthy temperaments as well.  Gentle exposure to new and different experiences is used to stimulate their mind and emotions, being careful not to stress them too much (especially during critical fear stages as outlined by canine behaviorists).

bullet

are ALWAYS welcome back to our home if for ANY reason the new family no longer wants them, or for visits and babysitting!

bullet

are MY babies and are only placed in homes that I feel match the needs of each individual puppy.   It is extremely important to me that each puppy is matched to each family so that the family is completely satisfied and the puppy/dog knows it's truly loved.

bullet

are NOT sold on a first come, first serve basis!!

bullet

are given at least 3 sets of shots and de-wormed as needed before going to their new homes.
